Rare 1807 Haiti Army Phoenix Military Button 2-3 Known
This button was made for King Henry Christophe\'s Army (1807-20). Christophe was a very interesting fellow, and I suggest you read about him on the net. In short he was a slave, a soldier, and a king. In addition, he has American connection; he served with the French military in the Battle of Savannah during the American Revolution.
We have a nice dug brass button here measuring 15mm, vest or cuff size, with No.27 (Riviere du Nord Regiment) on it. It retains its original shank in good condition. Rulau lists a coat size button (25mm) as R-5 for this regiment. However, he lists a cuff size button of this regimentas R-8 (2-3 known).
This is a very rare opportunity for you to add a genuinely rare example to your collectionthat is collected side by side with North West Company, Oregon tokens. This type of buttons is listed in Standard Catalog of United States Tokens 1700-1900, Rulau, 4th Edition, page 57.
Photo of King added for show, not part of sale.
